A car's best safety features will not keep you completely safe until we change our behavior

Behavior (1).jpg

While there are many factors that can contribute to crash and fatalities, human error is the constant variable in the majority of crashes.  One day fully automated cars that drive us will become a reality.  Until that time, our own driving behaviors will continue to factor into mitigating the risk.

We know there are always risks when driving a motor vehicle.  Some we can't control but must be anticipated, such as weather, road conditions, and the actions of other drivers.  And then there are the risks we create from our own behavior and habits, such as texting, eating, speeding, grooming ... and the list goes on (many we've already discssed in prior weeks.)

Safe driving begins with behavior, but can we really change our driving behaviors?

Yes, but only if we want to.

The major obstacle to change is the willpower and  a genuine desire to change something.  Quite often that desire can be influenced by knowledge and skills, social motivation and ability, and structural motivation and ability. This week we're bringing you some tips and tools to identify, commit and change those dangerous behaviors.
